TekStack to Salesforce Migration

Salesforce just recently announced that they are increasing prices on products like Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Tableau in the coming month.  You can see the Salesforce post here.  In a year where B2B SaaS companies are facing headwinds and needing to drive more sales efficiency in the business, this news may be frustrating to hear.  Especially if you are questioning the value of the current investment you’ve made.

Enter TekStack

We actually created TekStack as an allergic reaction to the experience we had trying to make Salesforce fit a B2B SaaS company that James and I (TekStack co-founders) were previously operating.  We were all in on SF.com and about eight different products bolted onto it.  We had a budget that allowed us to hire a support team of five people to get the investment working for the business.  But when you think about it, that’s completely insane.  North of $1M in technology stack costs, and $500K in people just to run a $30M business?

We created TekStack to solve this issue:

  • 100+ Prescriptive business processes for B2B SaaS companies.  We are talking about every Revenue Operation function fully thought through.
  • Microsoft technology.  Sure in 2019 this was a gamble, but we feel pretty great about the result.  Today Microsoft is dominant in productivity applications (like Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel) and reporting (Power BI).  We built TekStack on Power Apps which the market leader in #lowcode development.  It gives you crazy scalability, security, and a workhorse user experience (think pretty but functional like a Volvo).
  • Pre-built reports.  Over 100 metrics ready to role so customers can be board ready every day of the year.

People thought we were nuts to build TekStack on anything but HubSpot or Force.com.  But we saw the bigger picture and knew those platforms were either too limited for B2B companies, or too expensive.

Salesforce vs TekStack

Many would ask, ‘how could TekStack offer more features than Salesforce?”.  Its actually not that hard.  Out of the box, Sales Cloud does very little.  To get it working for a tech company you need to bolt on Pardot or Marketo for marketing automation, Outreach or Salesloft for outbound sequencing, Salesforce CPQ for quoting, SaaSOptics for subscription management, one of the Kantata products for customer on-boarding or PSA, then you need to think about support.  Do you choose Zendesk, Freshservice, or Service Cloud?  The cost of these tools add up, and none of them have out of the box processes.  They need to be integrated and then customized to work.  Crazy.  What about reporting?  You have to build out those too.  Tableau is insanely expensive, and then you need to pay someone to build it all out across 5-7 different databases.

I’d say comfortably that we would go head-to-head on any function in the business and beat what you do today.  We have over 50,000 hours of development on a platform that was already at parity with Salesforce.  Then add the business expertise of two founders that have run software companies for a combined 50 years.  Even if you had that experience on your team, they can’t afford the time to think about every process in the business like we have over the last four years.  Think about 8,000 hours of senior leadership doing nothing but thinking through every revenue operation process in your company for you.

Change is hard

Yes it is!  This is probably the biggest consideration.  What is the impact on your users?  However, I’d ask this question, what are you giving up exactly?  For companies that have disjointed data, or process hand offs, this could be the perfect opportunity to rethink how your business operates.  Your data is probably a mess anyways.  This is the perfect trigger.  Lets say you are paying $200K in vendor costs for software attached to Salesforce.  TekStack would reduce that 75% and give you 200% more functionality.  What would you do with that extra $150K?  I dont know, hire a rep, hire a CSM to get net retention up?  Maybe that amount of money is the difference between losing money and not losing money each year.  Guaranteed you have better places to put it.  Don’t believe those numbers, check out this ROI cost comparison calculator.

Templated Implementation and Data Migration

TekStack has pre-built a ‘re-implementation plan’ that considers the data migration and change management.  Your users are smart, they’ll happily sacrifice a few awkward weeks of getting to know a new tool and processes if it means keeping jobs, and being more productive in the long run.

Software and implementation cost deferral

TekStack is super transparent on pricing.  However, for Salesforce customers who migrate, we are offering the following for qualified customers:

  1. Defer first year’s subscription start to the end date of your Salesforce renewal (up to 12 months).
  2. Incorporate any implementation fees into a multi-year commitment so there is no capital outlay in advance.
  3. Up to 50 hours of customization services for multi-year commitments.
  4. Standardized data migration templates to move key entity information from Salesforce to TekStack
